Millers Pond Park
6175 Old Pearsall Road
Fishing

Pond The six-acre pond at Miller’s Pond Park was recently included into the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Neighborhood Fishing Program. From April through November, 850 channel catfish will be stocked bi-weekly into Miller’s Park Pond. During winter (December through March) rainbow trout will be stocked. Miller’s Park Pond is already brimming with fish as 3,400 channel catfish have been stocked since early May. The most recent stocking occurred Tuesday June 26 and the next stocking is scheduled for July 10.

Channel catfish are readily caught by shoreline anglers. Generally, use a medium sized hook (size 1 or 2), a small weight (on-eighth to one-half ounce), and some type of bait. Since channel catfish eat many different things, almost any kind of bait will work. Some of the more common ones are earth worms, night crawlers, grass hoppers, shrimp, liver, cheese, and prepared cheese and stink baits. It is usually better to fish for catfish on the bottom and not with a bobber because they usually feed on the bottom. ducks at pond

There is no size limit for the catfish or the trout at Miller’s pond, but you can only keep five each day and you can only use a pole and line to catch them. Trot lines, jug lines, and cast nets are not allowed. Only fishing from the shoreline is allowed. Also, if you are 17 years old or older and born after September 1, 1930 you must have a Texas fishing license with a freshwater stamp.

Miller’s Pond Park is located in southwest San Antonio inside Loop 410 at 6175 Old Pearsall Road. Park hours are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and entry into the park is free. The community center at the park has refreshments and restrooms available for public use, and there is a large parking area for park visitors.
