Contemporary Art Month

Creaciones de Papel/Paper Creations Workshop

July 9 and July 16
sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department and The Alameda

Fourteen children ages seven to 14 participated in the paper art workshop taught by Jennie Power. Children from Melendrez, Garrett and Woodard Community Centers attened the workshop, which was held at the Alameda.

The Alameda is a national center specifically dedicated to addressing the social, cultural, and educational needs ofthe Latino communiyt while providing theresources and programmingtoengage multi-cultural understanding. The Alameda is theo nly organization in the United States that maintains formal affiliation agreementswith the Smithsonian Institute and the Kenendy Center.

The Alameda's goals are:

To raise the artistic and educational standards for audiences who reside in and visit San Antonio;
To challenge, inspire, and educate;
To reach out to braod, new audiences;
To provide meaningful and rewarding opportunities for advancement in the arts and education;
To become the premier national centre for Latino arts and culture in the United States.
