Community Operations Resource Education (C.O.R.E.)

Park Police Badge The C.O.R.E. Unit is comprised of six San Antonio Park Police Officers whose mission is to establish a relationship between the Park Police Division and the community it serves by working closely with staff at the Parks and Recreation Department’s 27 community centers. Each of the six C.O.R.E. Unit Officers is assigned to a district made up of six to eight community centers. At each community center the assigned C.O.R.E. Officer will work closely with center staff to provide educational outreach on issues of public safety and to identify community concerns and quality of life issues while reducing the fear of crime.

C.O.R.E. Unit Officers are available upon request to make public safety presentations at community functions. They can be reached by contacting C.O.R.E. Unit Supervisor Sgt. Al Ballew at 299-4641 or 207-8590.

C.O.R.E. Unit Mission Statement

The San Antonio Park Police Division is committed to providing quality police service to the community it serves through the Parks and Recreation Department’s community centers. The Community Operations/Resource Education (C.O.R.E.) Unit, as an integral part of the San Antonio Park Police Division of the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is committed to the philosophy of community-oriented policing. This philosophy embraces a partnership between the community and the San Antonio Park Police Division in identifying, evaluating and resolving community concerns, problems and quality of life issues while reducing the fear of crime. To accomplish this mission, the C.O.R.E. Unit Officers establish and maintain day-to-day interaction with community centers and other public and private organizations within their assigned districts.
