CAREER FOR WOMEN

SAPD patch

Despite the fact that women have been police officers for many decades, law enforcement continues to be viewed as a non-traditional career for women. Policing today requires considerable intelligence, communication, compassion, and diplomacy; all traits that women ordinarily possess. Of the women currently serving in the San Antonio Police Department, more than 38% have promoted beyond the rank of patrol officer, with the third-highest rank in SAPD currently held by a woman.

Captain Rose Mary Flammia

Captain Mahala Ritchey

All policewomen receive the same training as their male counterparts, which enables them to move into a variety of areas within the department without the barriers usually experienced in other occupations.

K-9 Unit Sergeant

Negotiators

Please go to ASSIGNMENTS to see the opportunities that await all successful police cadets once they graduate from the Training Academy.
