Under the leadership of Captain Janae C. Florence, the Training Academy management team consists of two lieutenants and three sergeants. The staff instructors are experienced members of the department and are qualified in their speciality area. Instructors from local colleges and universities, state, and federal agencies, as well as from specialized units from within SAPD supplement the full-time Training staff.

The police cadet training program is a salaried non-residential program that is certified for full-time Veteran's Administration Education Benefits. Classes are conducted Monday through Friday, based on a 40-hour work-week, consisting of approximately 1,200 classroom hours over a 32 to 34-week period. Police cadets must maintain a minimum 80% grade point average and successfully complete all skills, vocational, and physical fitness training requirements. The training program includes, but is not limited to:
