SAPD WOMEN OFFICERS IN 2005

DID YOU KNOW:
  • The 140+ female SAPD officers occupy some the most important positions in the Department.
  • For Example: Female officers serve as Deputy Chief (one of five Deputy Chiefs), Captain of a Patrol Substation, Manager of the Sex Crimes Unit (Lieutenant), Homicide Detectives, K-9 Unit Supervisor (Sergeant), Helicopter Pilot, Bike Patrol Officer, Crisis Negotiators, Academy Instructors, and Recruiting Specialists.
  • Female SAPD officers are also Crime Prevention Specialists, SAFFE (Community Policing) officers, School Services Officers, Patrol Sergeants, Investigations Unit Sergeants, Youth Crimes Detectives, District Patrol Officers, and assistants to the Deputy Chiefs.
  • NO SAPD JOB IS CONSIDERED "FOR MEN ONLY"!! FEMALE OFFICERS SERVE EQUALLY WITH MALE OFFICERS.

CHOOSE A REWARDING CAREER

A career in SAPD can be both financially and professionally rewarding for women.
DID YOUR KNOW:
  • Successful applicants are provided with a 6-month paid training experience (salary during training is $2300/month)
  • A first-year Patrol Officer (after training and probation period) makes $2819/month.
  • Additional compensation is available for officers who have special language skills, college degrees, or work evening or night shifts.
  • Compared to other jobs open to women in their 20s, without 4-year college degrees, the $2800+/month starting salary significantly exceeds the average pay for Clerical Work, Retail Sales, Telemarketing, or any of the other jobs often taken by young women.
