CRIME STOPPERS pays cash for clues that lead to the arrest of criminals. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and cash rewards can be as much as $5000. Throughout the U.S., as well as in San Antonio, Crime Stoppers has proven to be a successful method in fighting and preventing crime.

During 2003, San Antonio Crime Stoppers received 1,167 tips, cleared 107 felony cases, and approved payment of $27,825 in Rewards. Crime Stoppers Tips also led to the recovery of over $95,900 in property and the seizure of nearly $18,000 worth of narcotics.

How does the Program Work?
CRIME STOPPERS rewards are paid from from court ordered probation fees from those convicted of crimes. No tax dollars are involved.

Each caller providing a tip to Crime Stoppers is issued a code number to ensure anonymity, and should the information lead to arrest and/or indictment, the Crime Stoppers coordinator forwards this information to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis for the cash reward amount to be determined. Each program is established as a nonprofit organization and receives a state charter from the Secretary of State and tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service.

Citizens with information about any crime may call the 24-hour TEXAS CRIME STOPPERS "Hot Line" toll free at 1-800-252-TIPS or call CRIME STOPPERS OF SAN ANTONIO at 224-STOP.
