In 1959, the citizens of San Antonio and Bexar County approved a joint bond issue providing for a Municipal Police and Courts Building and an all-purpose County-City Jail Building to be located across the street from the Police Building. On June 27, 1960, ground was broken at 214 West Nueva for the Police Building, and construction was completed in July of 1962. The initial Police Building was only 1 level; additional levels were added in the 1970s and 1980s. The photo at left shows the Police Building and the new Jail.
