William McManus was appointed Chief of Police of the San Antonio Police Department in April 17, 2006.

Directly under the Chief are: Media Services, Legal Advisors to the Chief, Executive Officer, Training Academy, Resource Management, the Operations Bureau, and the Operations Support Bureau.

The Legal Advisors, a group of assistant city attorneys provided by the Labor Relations Section of the City Attorney's Office, provides the Department with legal opinions and assistance necessary to perform the law enforcement function.
