SEX CRIMES UNIT

Description of the Sex Crimes Unit

The SAPD Sex Crimes Unit is directed by Lieutenant Andrew Carian , and includes a staff of four sergeants, 40 detective investigators, two patrol officers and 13 civilian positions. The Sex Crimes Unit is divided into three details and one office, described below: the Sex Crimes Detail, the Sex Offender Registration Detail, the Family Violence Detail, and the Victims Advocacy Office.
Anyone having information concerning sex offenses or family violence offenses that have occurred within the jurisdiction of the San Antonio Police Department can contact the Sex Crimes Unit by several means. The direct telephone number is (210)207-2313. The office, located at 214 W. Nueva, is open to the public seven days a week. The hours of operation are from 7:45 am to 5:45 pm. For the Victims Advocacy Office, the direct telephone number is (210)207-2141. The hours of operation are from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm. Sex Crimes Detail

The Sex Crimes Detail is responsible for the following offenses:
  • Aggravated Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Assault
  • Kidnapping
  • Aggravated Kidnapping
  • False Imprisonment
  • Bigamy
  • Indecent Exposure
  • Public Lewdness
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Retaliation
  • Burglary with Sexual Assault
  • Indecency with a Child
  • Sex Offender Registration
    The SAPD Sex Crimes Detail is also responsible for maintaining the list of Registered Sex Offenders living within the San Antonio city limits and filing this information with the Department of Public Safety in Austin. The DPS is required by State Law to make this information available to the public through their internet site at Texas DPS Sex Offender Database. You may use this database to locate information on registered sex offenders living not only within the city limits of San Antonio, but also outside the city limits in Bexar and surrounding counties, as well as in the smaller municipalities inside San Antonio and Bexar County.

    Family Violence Detail

    The Family Violence Detail is responsible for the following offenses:
  • Assault (Family and Children)
  • Aggravated Assault (Family and Children)
  • Injury to Elderly (Family)
  • Violation of Protective Order
  • Stalking
  • Kidnapping (Family)
  • False Imprisonment (Family)
  • Harassment (Family)
  • Deadly Conduct (Family)
  • Retaliation (Family)
  • Terroristic Threats (Family)
  • Endanger Child, Abandon Child
