Multi-Family Recycling Project

On December 9, 2010 City Council passed an ordinance requiring multi-family properties, such as apartments and condominiums, to provide recycling services for their residents. An archive of meeting notes and presentations that preceded passage of the ordinance is available (click here for historical data). Recycling services will be phased in from July 2011 – April 2012 on the following schedule:

Property Size Recycling Plan Due Date Start Service By
300 units or more April 1, 2011 July 1, 2011
200-299 units July 1, 2011 October 1, 2011
100-199 units October 1, 2011 January 1, 2012
3-99 units January 1, 2012 April 1, 2012

Property Owner

Multi-Family Recycling Plan   Multi-Family Recycling Plan: property owners are required to fill out and submit a recycling plan to the city a minimum of three months prior to their scheduled start date.
     
Property Owner Resources   Multi-family recycling guidebook: provides property owners guidelines on how to implement a recycling program that is consistent with the requirements of the ordinance. Printing instructions.
     
    Property owner checklist: checklist of items to complete in order to achieve ordinance compliance.
     
    Self-hauling information: provides requirements for property owners who will self-haul materials.
     
    List of recycling contractors: recycling collectors who will provide collection to multi-family properties.

  Waste hauler registration form: waste haulers to provide recycling collection services must register with the city and are required to submit an annual report listing the amount of recyclables collected and the number of households serviced.

NOTE: Waste haulers must be current on their waste hauler permit to be considered a registered waste hauler for recycling.
