Organics Recycling Pilot Program

As part of the City’s new Organic Material Recycling Pilot Program, the Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is introducing a new green cart for the collection of organic material such as leaves, grass, shrub and tree trimmings, food scraps and food-soiled paper (e.g., used napkins, paper plates, and pizza boxes).

The carts will be delivered to homes in select neighborhoods from September through November. The selected neighborhoods will be part of the program’s pilot phase.

This new program is part of SWMD’s 10-Year Recycling and Resource Recovery Plan. The plan’s goal is to increase the City’s recycling rate to 60% by the year 2020.
