Recycling Center Operating Procedures

Brush Disposal

Customers entering the Bitters Brush Recycling Center should approach the scalehouse slowly, and no faster than the posted speed of 10 MPH. At the base of the Incoming Scale, the customer should stop until signaled forward by the scalehouse attendant. When signaled forward, the customer should stop on the scale where the attendant will verify residency, inspect load and register incoming weight. After disposing of brush, the vehicle must stop at the base of the Outgoing Scale until signaled forward. Once signaled forward, the vehicle will stop on the scale where the attendant will register the vehicle's tare (empty) weight. Once the net weight is calculated, a fee will be collected, unless the customer also wishes to obtain mulch. If the customer wishes to dispose of brush and also obtain mulch, they must follow the procedure outlined above. After obtaining a tare weight, the customer may proceed to the mulch pile for loading. When full, the customer must return to the scale house for a weight and payment.

Mulch
Customers entering the Bitters Brush Recycling Center should approach the scalehouse slowly, no faster than the posted speed of 10 mph. At the base of the Incoming Scale, the customer should stop until signaled forward by the scalehouse attendant. When signaled forward, the customer must stop on the scale where the attendant will register the vehicle's incoming tare (empty) weight. After loading mulch, the customer must stop at the base of the Outgoing Scale until signaled forward. Once signaled forward, the vehicle will stop on the scale where the attendant will register the vehicle's loaded weight. After calculating the difference in the Loaded Weight versus the Tare (Empty) Weight, a fee, will be collected based on this difference. Bulk loading of fine screened mulch only is available at no additional cost. The customer must complete an indemnity form available from the attendant for this service.

If scales are inoperable, the fee will be assessed based on estimated quantity. Quantity will be determined by multiplying length times width times height, divided by twenty-seven ((LxWxH)/27) to determine the number of cubic yards. A cubic yard of brush weighs approximately 100 lbs. A cubic yard of mulch weights approximately 300 lbs. The scale house attend will then apply the applicable posted rates.
