Look West Breakfast Highlights Development

Activity in the Westside

On March 26, 2010, the Westside Development Corporation (WDC) and Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) co-hosted the Look West Breakfast, a new series designed to highlight development in the Westside. The event, attended by approximately 100 people, featured presentations by WDC Executive Director Ray Flores, OLLU President Dr. Tessa Martinez-Pollack, and Capital One Bank's Mark Koshnick. District 5 City Councilperson David Medina also addressed the attendees. Mr. Flores' presentation included an explanation about the tools that are available to help redevelop or to bring new development to the inner city, the WDC's priorities and accomplishments, the need for collaboration, corridors of activity, and opportunities for economic growth. Dr. Martinez-Pollack presented an update on OLLU since the campus fire that took place almost a year ago. The next Look West Breakfast will take place in September at St. Mary's University.

The University Health System Hosts

a Public Forum on Major Expansion to

University Health Center - Downtown

On February 22, 2010, the WDC and UHS will hosted a public presentation of the plans to significantly expand the UHS-Downtown campus, formerly known as The Robert B. Green Hospital, built in 1915. The project is called the Target 2012: Capital Improvement Program.

The combined investment in the expansion of the Downtown campus and the University Hospital in the Medical Center is $899.4 million. This investment is larger than the construction of the Alamodome, SBC Center (now AT&T), and Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center combined. The project will also revitalize the Westside of San Antonio, providing greater access to the latest outpatient diagnostic and treatment options in a convenient location.

The Downtown campus will expand:

  • Acute and crisis care services
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Pharmacy services
  • Parking
