SAN ANTONIO (April 25, 2019) – His owner decided he could no longer care for him; now Animal Care Services is trying to save a grossly overweight Doberman that clocks in at 180 pounds. Named “Papa” by shelter staff, the 5 year old dog is more than twice the weight of a normal size male Doberman that typically weigh about 85 pounds.  In addition to complications from his extreme obesity, Animal Care Services has determined Papa also is suffering from long term ear infections and has difficulty moving around because of his size. Coincidentally, in 2014, a 147 pound Doberman named Bear was brought in to ACS before finding a home with a Texas Doberman Rescue.  Bear has been able to shed a large amount of weight in his new home and ACS is hopeful Papa will be able to go on a similar weight loss journey.
