Visiting State Parks during COVID-19:

Select Texas State Parks now require an advanced reservation for day passes and overnight camping PRIOR to your arrival.  For the latest updates on what parks require advanced reservations, view the Parks map.

Difficulty: Moderate – Difficult
Distance from SA: 1 hour 30 mins

Located in Johnson City, this park is just a short drive away and packed with adventure. There are multiple hiking trails ranging from moderate to challenging, but the hard work is worth it when you get to the beautiful hilltop views! With pet friendly trails and designated swimming areas, this park has it all. Don’t forget to check out the beautiful Falls while you are there! Lost Maples State Natural Area
37221 FM-187
Vanderpool, TX

Difficulty: Easy – Difficult
Distance from SA: 1 hr 35 mins

Hop in the car for a scenic and magical drive to Lost Maples! With only 5 total miles of trails, most of the hard work here is climbing up the sides of the large hills that make this beautiful state park.  The park has two large trails available.  If you are thinking about hiking the West Trail, Sewell recommends using some type of foot protection for your four-legged friends, as the jagged and rough terrain can be harmful to them. The park is well-known in the area for its stunning display of color during the fall, the most popular time to visit. Be sure to book your spot way in advanced if you plan to make a trip to this popular park.

Garner State Park

234 RR 1050
Concan, TX 7883

Difficulty: Easy – Difficult

Whether you’d like to relax and camp on the river or explore the 16 miles of hiking trails, this park has something for you.

Pets are allowed on the trails, but foot protection for your pups are highly recommended.
