The SAn Antonio international airport (SAT) BADGE AND ID Office

   
The San Antonio International Airport (SAT) Badge and ID Office is responsible for the issuance of airport Security Identification Media (badges) to employees who work and require access to the San Antonio International Airport.

Individuals who work and require unescorted access to the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) and Sterile Areas must possess an airport issued SAT Security Identification Media (badge). 

Badge issuance is limited to those individuals who have cleared the FBI-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) as well as the TSA-based Security Threat Assessment (STA) and have frequent and recurring need for access.

It should be noted, the badge is and always remains property of SAT and will be surrendered upon the demand of the employer, SAT Security and/or Operations within 24 hours of termination of employment.

Monday New Applicants Only/Walk Ins 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday - Thursday Renewal Applicants (Walk-In) & New Applicants (by appointment) 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Friday Renewal Applicants (Walk-In) & New Applicants (by appointment) 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Office is closed for lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

AT THE BADGE OFFICE

When you come to the Badge & ID Office you must bring appropriate identification per the I-9 list of acceptable documents. All documents must be valid and legible. If presenting a driver;s license and social security card the names on both documents must match.

Payment will be required at the time of initial processing. If presenting a credit card it must be in the presenter's name, no exceptions. Checks must be made out to the City of San Antonio.

Applicants must wait 24 hours after approval of all applications before coming into the Badge & ID Office for processing.

Customer guest policy

Children under 12 are not permitted in the lobby due to safety concerns and limited space.

AUTHORIZED SIGNATORY

Each company must designate an Authorized Signatory to be the primary point of contact between SAT and the company if they are badged as a standalone company. The process to become an Authorized Signatory requires the person to have an issued badge, complete additional Computer Based Training for Authorized Signatories and attend annual training.

The Badge and ID Office accepts the following forms of payment: 

  • Credit/Debit cards
  • Company Checks
  • Cashier’s Checks and 
  • Money Orders

If your company is paying for your badge process, they must send applicants in with "Authorization to Bill".

Badge & ID MIssed Appointments

The Airport Security Division is introducing a $25.00 fee for Badge & ID missed appointments for the following reasons:

  1. Arriving 15 minutes after scheduled appointment.
  2. Failure to arrive at the schedule date or time of appointment
Completing the “Identification and Access Control Media Application”

New Applicants

Ensure all fields are completed including: 

  • “Nick Name (Alias)
  • “Alien Registration”
  • “Non Immigrant Visa Number”
  • “Passport Number”

Ensure you electronically sign (at the bottom)

ATTENTION APPLICANT, CONTACT YOUR SUPERVISOR: Prior to reporting to your appointment, you must confirm that your company's Authorizing Signatory has processed and authorized your badge application. Renewal Applicants

Complete all of the above steps with the exception of selecting an appointment date/time as renewals are handled on a first come, first serve basis as walk-ins to the office. 

Please ensure 24 hours has passed between the Authorized Signatory approving the application and arrival at the Badge and ID Office.

DISQUALIFYING EVENTS

Applicants convicted of any of the disqualifying offenses listed in the below link will be disqualified from obtaining Identification Media (badge). This includes if an applicant accepted deferred adjudication on any of the 28 offenses as well.

Disqualifying Events

Applicants with outstanding warrants will not be cleared for their Identification Media (badge) until proof of resolution is provided.

Applicants may be required to obtain court documents and provide those to the Criminal History Records Check Specialist for any questionable offenses.

An applicant not completing the badge process within 30 days of Authorized Signatory notification of clearance will be disqualified from obtaining Identification Media (badge).

SIDA Training Hours of Operation

Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

SIDA Training Requirements

  • Applicants must check in at front desk kiosk prior to reporting to the SIDA training room (down the hall, second door on the right) 
  • Once directed to the training room all applicants must sign in on the clip board 
  • Applicants must present photo identification and return their pink CHRC In Process badge in order to take training 
  • Each applicant is allotted six (6) attempts to complete the final assessment prior to the computer locking them out
    • Applicants must complete SIDA Training and assessment on their own without assistance.
    • If an applicant does not pass within the first 3 attempts they must STOP and notify a staff member.
    • If an applicant continues through all six (6) attempts and is unable to pass, they will be required to notify their Authorized Signatory and will not get a badge that day.
    • If the Authorized Signatory requests additional attempts for the applicant to take the test they will be given two more attempts (for a total of 8). If unsuccessful in passing the exam they will not be eligible for the badge.

The Applicant must come in and complete the badging process within 30 days of receipt of fingerprint results. If not badged within 30 days, the Applicant must repeat the application and fingerprint process. 

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my background check take?

The length of time needed for a background check varies for each person, but generally takes anywhere from 5-10 days.

It has been more than 2 weeks since my information was submitted. and I still have not been cleared? Why?

There are several factors that can delay fingerprint or threat assessment clearance. If you have been waiting over 2 weeks for your clearance. contact the Badge and ID Office so that we can research your case.

I was born outside the United States. Will it take longer to complete my background check?

It is possible this the process may take e bit longer for those born outside of the country; however, providing sufficient documentation will help expedite the process. 

I have an employee who does not speak or understand English very well. Is he/she allowed to have a translator with them during training.

Interpreters are permitted for the computer-based training but !he following requirements must be observed an Interpreter Request Form must be completed and signed by an authorized agent with the company; the interpreter must be a badge holder with at least the same level of access as the trainee will have, and the interpreter may not be a close friend or family member.

When can I renew my badge? 

Badges can be renewed up to 60 days before the expiration date.

How do I get my airfield driver's license?

Employees must contact Airport Operations to schedule a drivers' training class Monday - Thursday from 7:45 am - 4:30 pm at 210-207-3540.

Do I need an appointment if I need to renew my badge?

No, renewal applicants do not need an appointment. Renewals are seen on a first come, first serve basis. New applicants are REQUIRED to have an appointment for processing.

What do I do if I lose my badge or if it's stolen?

You will first need to call the AICC at 210-207-3433 and report it. Notify your supervisor or authorized signatory so an application can be submitted and approved for replacement.

If you filed a police report listing the badge as stolen property, you will not be charged a fee as long as you provide the Access Control/ID Badging Office with the police report. An authorized signature on the replacement form is still required.
