The annual New Year’s Eve Celebrate San Antonio event, sponsored by the San Antonio Parks Foundation, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013. Approximately 250,000 people are expected to attend the festivities.
To accommodate the influx of people coming downtown to celebrate the New Year, street closures will be put in place around Hemisfair Park starting at 8 a.m. on December 31 and continuing through 7 a.m. on January 1. Alamo Street from Market Street to Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Nueva Street from Alamo Street to Presa Street will be closed. Citizens are encouraged to save time and plan ahead for the New Year’s Eve street closures.
In addition, Downtown Tuesday free parking will be suspended on New Year’s Eve. Parking in downtown lots, meters and garages will be available at the posted rates.
“We’ve had many successful events happening on Tuesdays in downtown San Antonio. The demand on New Year’s Eve for parking will be high, and we want to ensure people can park to attend the New Year’s Eve Celebrate San Antonio event,” said Jim Mery, Interim Director of the City’s Downtown Operations Department. “We wish everyone a very safe and memorable New Year.”
Downtown Tuesday free parking will resume on Tuesday, January 7 at City-operated lots, meters and garages from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Downtown Tuesday has been helping San Antonio’s urban core flourish by offering citizens and visitors free parking at City-operated parking lots and garages on Tuesday evenings. This past month, Downtown Tuesday promoted local businesses and events, such as OPEN Downtown Pop-Up shops, Mayor Castro’s Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest, and many more.
Downtown Tuesday offers locals and visitors great incentives, such as free parking and discounts, when they visit restaurants, bars, museums and other attractions in the downtown area. For more information, visit DowntownTuesday.com.
