District 2 Councilwoman Ivy R. Taylor will host the District 2 Book Club on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at the Molly Pruitt Library, 5110 Walzem, from noon to 2 p.m.
The book of the month is “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness” by Michelle Alexander. The book, a New York Times paperback nonfiction best seller, discusses the powerful analysis of why and how mass incarceration is happening in America. Described by Dr. Cornel West, “the New Jim Crow is a grand wake-up call in the midst of a long slumber of indifference to the poor and vulnerable.”
The book club is free and open to the public. Young adults are welcome to join. Copies of the book are on reserve at the Molly Pruitt Library and refreshments will be provided to attendees.
For more information or to RSVP for the District 2 Book Club, please call 210-207-2122.
