Police Chief William McManus is retiring following a distinguished 40-year career in law enforcement and is accepting a position with CPS Energy as Senior Director of Security. We are extremely fortunate that Chief McManus has served the City of San Antonio for the past eight and a half years, which is more than twice the average tenure of chiefs of police in the U.S. I consider Bill one of my top recruitments and appointments during my nine-year tenure as City Manager. The San Antonio Police Department is better managed, more professional, and has better trained police officers than ever in its history thanks to Bill's integrity and leadership. Chief McManus has developed an exceptionally positive relationship with the community at-large and is respected by one and all in San Antonio and Texas. He has more than earned this retirement. Chief McManus will continue as Chief until December and will work through the FY2015 budget process and assist in the development of a transition plan for the Chief's office this Fall.
