SAN ANTONIO (July 25, 2014) – Summer is in full swing and the community is invited to “dive in” and immerse themselves in volunteer opportunities that are currently available. Residents looking for ways to make a difference in their community through volunteer activities need look no further than the City of San Antonio’s Volunteer Program. By registering online at sanantonio.gov/commpa/Volunteer, interested volunteers, age 14 and older, gain access to a one-stop resource to search a variety of service projects and activities organized by community partners and various City departments.
Whether individuals enjoy outdoor activities, working with animals or even in a quiet library setting, there are volunteer opportunities for everyone! Currently, participants are needed for fun, summertime activities such as mulching, tree planting, graffiti abatement, dog walking, cat care, and much more. The City’s Volunteer Program is also a great resource for students who need to participate in volunteer activities to earn volunteer hours as part of school or organization requirements.
The City’s Volunteer Program was established to encourage residents and City of San Antonio employees to become more actively engaged in the community. Since the program’s registration process switched to an online format it 2013, more than 7,900 volunteers have registered and participated in more than 200 activities throughout the San Antonio area.
More information on the City’s Volunteer Program is available at sanantonio.gov or by calling Melissa Escamilla, the City’s Volunteer Coordinator, at 210-207-8178.
