The City of San Antonio invites the community to attend two scheduled informational meetings regarding the City’s proposed ordinance for the registration and inspection of boarding homes. Two meetings were held on November 13 and two additional meetings will be held on:
Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at 6 p.m.
· District 5 Senior Center, 2701 S. Presa
· Northeast Service Center, 4500 Wurzbach Pkwy.
Neighbors, boarding home occupants, boarding home operators and all interested parties are encouraged to attend the next community meetings. During these informational meetings, City staff will highlight recommended requirements for a proposed boarding homes ordinance and listen to feedback from all in attendance.
The San Antonio City Council is expected to consider and possibly take action on the proposed boarding homes ordinance at the Thursday, Dec.13, 2012 City Council meeting. If the proposed ordinance is adopted, San Antonio will become only the third city in Texas, and one of only a few in the nation, to implement a boarding homes ordinance. The proposed ordinance focuses on the safety and upkeep of buildings and properties where boarding home residents choose to live. The proposed ordinance requires boarding home owners and operators throughout San Antonio to maintain City fire and building codes.
The proposed ordinance addresses several key areas affecting boarding homes and their owners/operators including fire codes, health codes, building codes and zoning requirements. The ordinance also addresses the responsibilities and requirements of boarding home owners/operators to receive and maintain permits.
