SAN ANTONIO (February 21, 2020) — In an effort to hear from the San Antonio renters community, Councilman Roberto Treviño is inviting the community to join him for a Renters Commission Town Hall meeting. The goal is to gain a first-person understanding of the issues that renters are facing.
Councilman Treviño strongly believes that a Renters Commission is imperative because renters make up 47% of the population. In addition, 88% of eviction cases are decided in favor of the landlord. Moreover, less than 1% of those cases are decided in favor of tenant. Many of those facing eviction are seniors, veterans, single-mothers and low-income residents.
The Renters Commission is hoping to outline renter focused concerns and services that can allow for resources to be easily accessible to renters in need of assistance. Councilman Roberto Treviño looks forward to opening the floor to tenants and those who have experiences to share. He hopes that by doing so will help to gain a well-rounded perspective to assist in designing a framework for the Renters Commission.
