We recognize the importance of industry-related certifications and continuing education for professionals in our industry. That is why we make professional development an essential part of our business. Our Training Manager works closely with various professionals in the industry to offer educational training support for our staff as well our customers/community. Our training programs focus on those seeking to extend their knowledge base, continuing education and certification.

For more information on training please refer to the DSD Training Handbook, email the Training Manager or call 210.207.8219.

Partnering with our community to build and maintain a safer San Antonio is a mission that we take seriously and are always looking for new and innovative ways in which to accomplish our goals. As part of our efforts to increase and improve our partnership with our community, we’ve started a DSD Academy to help residents understand the various aspects of development, including zoning, platting, permits, inspections, code enforcement and graffiti. DSD Academy will have a session every month, each on a different topic.

Future planned DSD Academy sessions are to be determined due to the pandemic. To learn more about DSD and the services available, please review our presentations from prior academy sessions.

Development Services Department organizes several San Antonio Building Codes Academy (SABCA) sessions per year with the goal of bringing high-quality educators and necessary building-related codes training for code officials, design professionals, builders, tradesmen and building owners and managers.

2021 Spring SABCA virtual Training

We are happy to offer the upcoming 2021 Spring SABCA Virtual Training. The training is comprised of two courses, with each course offering two sessions. Due to the winter storm the week of Feb. 15, 2021, we rescheduled the SABCA training, a new survey will be sent for new date registration. The new dates are below with the course details:

IAEI's Soares Grounding and Bonding - 2020 NEC (4-hour includes TDLR)
Dates: March 25 & 26
Time: Each session is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon

This course is designed to cover the general concepts of grounding and bonding as it applies to electrical systems. This includes the grounding of systems, services, feeders, branch circuits and equipment. It covers design and installation practices according to safety provisions in the National Electric Code. *This course will be hosted by IAEI using

2018 IRC Essentials
Dates: March 23 &24
Times: Each session is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This 6-hour seminar examines basic concepts of the 2018 International Residential Code (IRC). These concepts provide a basis for the correct utilization of the code. A clear understanding of the identified requirements allows the code user to apply the IRC in specific situations and helps to build an understanding of the intent of the code when asked to make a judgment on code compliance. Additionally, this course will show the code user how to correctly locate code requirements, provide a basis for the correct use and application of the code, and begin to develop a procedure for applying them. This course will be hosted by the City of San Antonio using WebEx Events.
