SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 31, 2017) — During Governance Committee held Wednesday, Aug. 30, Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales's request to utilize the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) design guides was approved as a requirement for 2017 Bond transportation projects and the revision of City San Antonio Design Guidance Manual (DGM) to incorporate NACTO and Vision Zero.

"San Antonio has reaffirmed its commitment to Vision Zero with approval of my recommendation to incorporate the latest national safe streets design guide in street planning.

Since my first day in office I have worked to insure street design policies are aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities.

With City staff, adoption of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) Urban Street Design Guide for 2017 bond projects, San Antonio streets will become safer for all users.

I applaud City staff for adopting NACTO criteria to enhance safe accessibility for all street users.

I look forward to the day when we reach the Vision
Zero goal of zero traffic fatalities. This would mean the elimination of fatal accidents for San Antonio school children, seniors, cyclists, passengers and drivers."
