Voting kicks off on Friday for Mayor Nirenberg’s Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest!

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 22, 2017) — Be a part of San Antonio’s seventh annual Mayor’s Light Up Downtown contest by voting for your favorite downtown holiday lighting display! The contest kicks off on Friday, Nov. 24 and runs through Dec. 20, 2017.

Residents and visitors are invited to record a video of themselves, their family, or a group of their friends at their favorite downtown display and post it on Light Up Downtown or on their personal Instagram account explaining why they like that display and using the hashtag #SAMayorLUDT.

Individuals can vote once a day in each category for their favorite lighting displays online at

“I encourage all San Antonians to come downtown to enjoy the beautiful holiday decorations and atmosphere,” Mayor Nirenberg said. “Thousands of residents and guests come downtown to look at the lights that grace the River Walk every year. The Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest brings this magic up to the street level and encourages festive lighting displays throughout downtown.”

Participants, including hotels, stores, restaurants, organizations and pop-up shops, will showcase the exteriors of their buildings with creative holiday lighting displays and compete in a variety of categories including Best Small, Medium and Large Business Displays as well as People’s Choice and Pop-Up Shops. The contest provides a family-friendly environment and encourages locals and tourists to visit downtown during the holidays. Individuals can vote for their favorite lighting displays online at Winners will be recognized by Mayor Nirenberg.

The displays will be lit through early January. The Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office, the City of San Antonio’s Center City Development and Operations Department, CPS Energy and media partners KABB-TV Fox 29, News 4 WOAI-TV.
