SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 8, 2019) – The deadline to acquire a permit for Short Term Rentals (STR) with the City’s Development Services Department (DSD) is Monday, February 11. A separate permit, valid for three years, is required per individual unit. To apply for a permit, an account for the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) needs to be set up with the City’s Finance Department.
San Antonio’s City Council approved a Short Term Rentals ordinance on November, 2018, affecting only properties within city limits. To date, 539 permits have been issued in advance of this deadline.
“We recently launched a new online portal for registering STRs,” said Michael Shannon, DSD Director. “Customers can now open a HOT account, submit their STR application and payments needed electronically.”
Staff will continue to assist citizens at our dedicated computer lab during normal business hours (7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at 1901 S. Alamo St. on:
DSD will also host a STR DSD Academy Saturday, February 16, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., providing an overview of the ordinance and new online registration portal.
