SAN ANTONIO (July 31, 2019) – The City’s Development Services Department (DSD) is looking for feedback from the public about developing a program to proactively inspect apartments for seniors.
“We want the community to speak up! We want to make sure living facilities tailored for senior citizens provide the safe and healthy environment they deserve,” said DSD Director Michael Shannon. “A program like this would help us to identify and resolve property maintenance issues before they become risks to residents.”
There are several ways for public input:
- SASpeakUp.com and look for our survey Proactive Inspections for Senior Living Facilities
- www.sanantonio.gov/DSD and look for Senior Living Facilities in our rotator banner
- Through Facebook, Twitter (@CoSA_DSD), LinkedIn and Nextdoor
- By attending one of the community meetings scheduled throughout San Antonio:
|Wednesday, Jul. 31
||Northeast Senior Center
||4135 Thousand Oaks
|Tuesday, Aug. 6
||West End Park Senior Center
||1226 NW 18th St.
|Wednesday, Aug. 7
||District 3 Senior Center
||517 SW Military Dr.
|Thursday, Aug. 8
||Primrose at Monticello Park
||2803 Fredericksburg Rd.
The information gathered by the survey (open through Aug. 25) and community meetings will be used to develop this program and inform City leaders.
In March 2017 Councilmember Roberto Treviño, District 1, issued a City Council Consideration Request (CCR) for DSD staff to explore the development of a program to ensure the safety of all residents of senior housing facilities, to include: periodic, regular and adequate inspections with a goal of preventing or minimizing public health dangers and risks for residents living in these types of residential housing facilities.
