SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 26, 2019) — San Antonio District 3 City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran will be speaking Saturday, September 28 at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Texas. The festival is one of the nation’s largest and buzzworthy political gatherings.

Councilwoman Viagran will be a part of a special panel titled “Doing Our Share” about how dockless scooters, ride-share, short-term rentals and the rise of urban technologies have changed city functionalities. The panel is presented by The University of Texas at Austin and programmed in partnership with the Urban Lab at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Panelists include Ashwini Chhabra, Senior Director of Public Affairs at Bird scooters, Spencer Cronk, City Manager of Austin, and April Mims, Director of Public Policy at Lyft and will be moderated by the Director of the Urban Lab, Steven Pedigo. This panel is a part of the festival’s Open Congress, an open-to-the-public street festival held on Austin’s historic Congress Ave., on Saturday, September 28 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

“I am looking forward to participating in the panel discussion and providing insight on how the sharing platform impacts local government and opportunities to cohesively work together in creating a roadmap that benefits both the city and consumer,” said Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran. “My hope is that this panel can help with the balance of collaborative consumption, but also discuss the impact on public policy issues such as public safety, gentrification, and shared mobility.”
