San Antonio (December 17, 2020) – San Antonio International Airport (SAT) has decorated the tree, hung the wreaths, poinsettias have been placed and our Ambassadors are ready to greet visitors. Although COVID-19 has caused changes to some airport traditions, spirits remain bright and SAT is ready to serve anyone travelling over the holidays.
Safety remains our number one priority. Passengers can rest assured that top sanitation standards and technologies are implemented multiple times a day throughout the airport, from the no touch parking entrances to hundreds of hand sanitizing stations, social distancing dots, seat covers, and transparent shields at counters and customer service areas. Forgot your mask or sanitizer? Free face masks and small bottles of hand sanitizers are available at the Ambassador Stations.
This year, passengers will have an opportunity to take a selfie with SAT’s newest germ-slaying hero, the “SATerminator.” The Xenex Lightstrike™ robot uses ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology proven to deactivate SARS-CoV-2; the virus that causes COVID-19. The SATerminator will be available for photos December 18, 21 and 23 in Terminal A between 10am and noon and 6pm-8pm as well as Terminal B between 2pm-4pm. Just look for the robot in a Santa hat!
If you plan to travel this year, consider enrolling in TSA PreCheck for benefits like faster lines, no need for screening bins and no need to remove personal items like shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids or food. For detailed information on TSA PreCheck, visit their website at https://www.tsa.gov/precheck.
For passengers still in need of holiday gift ideas, SAT has a new Gift Catalog, The Airport Gift Catalog can be accessed at https://flysanantonio.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/SAT-Holiday-Gifts.pdf and participating airport concessionaires will be displaying items in front of their shops for easy access.
Musicians will be entertaining passengers in the concessions area. If your timing is just right and you truly believe, you might even spot a few of Santa’s helpers.
“We know that even under normal circumstances travel can be stressful. However, we want to reassure our passengers that if you are flying out of SAT, we are doing everything possible to make your time at our airport a safe and joyful part of your holiday,” said Jesus H. Saenz, Jr., Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System.
