SA: Ready to Work, a training and education initiative, builds on the City of San Antonio's COVID-19 Recovery and Resiliency Plan which serves as the immediate response to the significant and urgent need to assist San Antonio residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

SA: Ready to Work is tax supported through a 1/8th cent sales tax. $38.5 million is available for the program annually, with a four-year estimate of $154 million. This education and workforce program will begin serving San Antonio residents in fall 2021 and will extend through December 2025.

The core services proposed in SA: Ready to Work are:

  • Tuition Assistance – for workforce training and two- and four- year degree completion.
  • Wraparound Services – to help navigate barriers and promote training and degree completion, with referrals to available social services.
  • Emergency Financial Assistance – for the unexpected expenses that can compromise a participant’s ability to focus on training completion.

SA: Ready to Work Advisory Board

In November, San Antonio voters overwhelmingly approved SA: Ready to Work, a training and education initiative to assist San Antonio residents impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. In December of 2020, City Council approved the creation of a nine-member SA: Ready to Work Advisory Board to provide feedback on program objectives.

The Board consists of representatives from four local employers with in-demand occupations, two current/previous participants in the City of San Antonio workforce development programs, one trade or labor organization, one community organization, and one workforce training provider. In addition, two City Council members are appointed by the Mayor to serve as liaisons to this Advisory Board.
