City of San Antonio Property Taxes are billed and collected by the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office.
The City of San Antonio has an interlocal agreement with the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office to provide property tax billing and collection services for the City.

Property Tax Payment Options
There are several options available to taxpayers, including Half Pay and Pre-Payment Plans. For details, contact the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office.
Property Tax Late Charges
Taxes become delinquent if not paid by the due date. A delinquent tax incurs interest at the rate of 1% for the first month and an additional 1% for each month the tax remains delinquent. In addition to interest, delinquent taxes incur the following penalties: 6% for the first month; an additional 1% for each of the following 4 months; and an additional 2% for the sixth month, for a total of 12%.
- Example - Penalty and interest will be added at a rate of 7% for February, 2% per month for March through June, and 3% for July. Thereafter, interest will continue to be added at the rate of 1% per month until the tax is paid.
- Collection Fee - Current taxes remaining delinquent after June 30th during the first year of delinquency will incur an additional 15% collection fee. If there is an existing lawsuit for earlier years, the 15% collection fee will be added immediately on the first regular business day in February.
NOTE: If the last day for the performance of an act is a Saturday, Sunday, or legal state or national holiday, the act is timely if performed on the next regular business day.
Property Tax Exemptions for Property Owners
The City offers three property tax exemptions to property owners:
- Effective for tax year 2019, persons with a residence homestead are entitled to a $5,000 exemption of the assessed valuation of their home.
- The over-65 exemption is for property owners who are 65 years of age or older and claim their residence as their homestead. This exemption is a maximum of $65,000 of taxable valuation.
- A disabled individual who meets
the definition of disabled for the purpose of receiving disability insurance
benefits under the Federal Old Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance Act
administered by the Social Security Administration may qualify for a $12,500
disabled residence homestead exemption.
Applications for exemptions must be submitted before May 1st to the Bexar Appraisal District located at 411 N. Frio Street.
