SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 9, 2019)  -The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has declared August as Kids Eat Right Month™ which focuses on the importance of healthful eating and active lifestyles for kids and families. The campaign was launched to support public education projects and programs that address the national health concern of obesity among children. The City of San Antonio’s Metropolitan Health District, Culinary Health Education for Families (CHEF), and the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics support the proclamation of Kids Eat Right Month™ in San Antonio.

“Declaring August as Kids Eat Right Month™ in San Antonio will help bring awareness and encourage the adoption of healthy eating practices among families, within schools, and while dining out,” says Metro Health Registered Dietitian, Arisa Larios. “As kids start to go back to school, this proclamation will serve as a reminder to all parents and school educators to instill healthy habits throughout the school year.”

The CHEF program teaches children and families’ basic nutrition and practical cooking skills with the long-term goal of motivating individuals and communities to adopt and sustain healthier eating habits. CHEF offers hands-on, engaging classes in seven Teaching Kitchens located throughout San Antonio.

“At CHEF, we believe that healthy habits start at home and this month, we hope to encourage our community to embrace nutritious food and home cooking as key ingredients in the recipe for life-long health and wellness,” says CHEF Director of Community Outreach and Registered Dietitian, Katy Bowen. “We are proud to partner with the City of San Antonio’s Metropolitan Health District to raise awareness about Kids Eat Right Month™ and to encourage families to explore wholesome, delicious flavors while embracing good food as your body’s best medicine.”
