SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 15, 2019) – The City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture is seeking exhibition proposals from local, state, and national curators, artists, artist groups, and organizations interested in exhibit and programming opportunities. These opportunities will take place at Centro de Artes Gallery from February 2021-December 2022. More information and a link to the online application are available on SanAntonio.gov/arts. The deadline to apply is Sept. 27, 2019 at 5 p.m. Central Time. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend a free information session on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Centro de Artes, 101 S. Santa Rosa.

Located in the heart of downtown San Antonio’s Zona Cultural on the grounds of Historic Market Square, Centro de Artes is a two-story exhibit space dedicated to telling the story of the Latino experience in the U.S. with a focus on South Texas through local and regional art, history and culture. Centro de Artes showcases Latino artists and Latino-themed artworks as well as presents a full season of solo and group exhibitions and programming annually through an open call. The department supports emerging and established Latino artists, curators, organizations, and community groups working in all disciplines.

“This open call for exhibitions represents a true city-community partnership where the voices of local artists, art lovers, historians, and supporters formulate a strong vision for the space,” said Yadhira Lozano, chair of the San Antonio Arts Commission’s Centro de Artes committee. “Through this process, we hope to showcase dynamic and diverse works by local and regional Latino artists.”

Two to four exhibitions may be selected per year. Selected respondents will receive administrative and marketing support for the exhibition. Proposals should showcase local and regional art, history, and/or culture featuring San Antonio and/or regional Latino artists and/or art work. An evaluation committee consisting of members of the San Antonio Arts Commission’s Centro de Artes Committee and City of San Antonio staff will review and evaluate proposals with the Centro de Artes Committee making the final approval of selections.

Centro de Artes is free and open to the public daily between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. For more information visit sanantonio.gov/arts or contact the Department of Arts & Culture at 210-207-1436.
