SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 15, 2019) — District 2 Councilwoman Jada Andrews-Sullivan released the following statement regarding the resolution passed by City Council calling for state and federal lawmakers to address gun violence:
“My heart aches for the families and friends of those who have lost their lives to senseless acts of violence.
I stand with the constituents of District 2 and the rest of the City of San Antonio in demanding action to protect our beloved city. We fully support the exploration of all possible avenues to truly increase safety in San Antonio, especially for our children and underprivileged communities. Every single person, visiting or living, in San Antonio deserves to feel safe.
Unfortunately, because we are preempted by state law, our options as a city are limited. Recognizing this, it is crucial that we urge our state and federal representatives to take action immediately. Too many lives have been lost and many more will be lost if something truly tangible does not happen soon.”
