San Antonio Public Library Hosts Celebrated Puerto Rican Author, Esmeralda Santiago

SAN ANTONIO (November 1, 2019) – The San Antonio Public Library is excited to partner with the Puerto Rican Heritage Society in celebrating their 30th Anniversary with “Café con Letras: Esmeralda Santiago” a discussion and book-signing by renowned Puerto Rican writer, Esmeralda Santiago. This event will take place on Saturday, November 2, from 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m. inside Central Library. This event is free and open to the public.

Santiago is known for defining the literature of the Puerto Rican diaspora through internationally acclaimed works such as, When I Was a Puerto Rican (1993), Almost a Woman (1999), The Turkish Lover (2004), America’s Dream (1997), and Conquistadora (2011). Esmeralda Santiago, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, came to the United States when she was thirteen years old. Her writings have been featured in the New York Times, Boston Globe, House & Garden, Metropolitan Home, and Sports Illustrated. She and her husband founded CANTOMEDIA, a film and media production company, in 1977. CANTOMEDIA is acclaimed for its excellence in documentary filmmaking.

“Café con Letras: Esmeralda Santiago” will feature a discussion by Santiago about her life and literary career. This event was made possible thanks to a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. For more information, visit
