SAN ANTONIO (December 9, 2020) – Metro Health and the University of Incarnate Word (UIW) Cardinal Clinic have partnered to host a free drive-thru flu clinic in Council District 7. This event will take place on December 11, 2020 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Francis M. Rhodes Elementary (5714 N Knoll). The event will offer no-cost flu shots to the first 50 participants by pre-registration. Participants who pre-register and get their flu shot at the event will be entered into a drawing to win a free fresh produce box courtesy of Big State Produce.
Through this partnership we will continue to provide no cost flu vaccines over the next few weeks at a variety of new locations. “The University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine wholeheartedly supports and works alongside the City of San Antonio Metro Heath District. We will administer flu vaccines with the goal of keeping the community healthy during flu season. The UIW Cardinal Clinic's goal is to improve access to healthcare for underserved and vulnerable members of the community. We encourage our neighbors to sign up for the upcoming flu vaccine drive. As UIW School of Ostepathic Medicine and our health profession programs continue to expand our reach throughout San Antonio, we feel honored to be able to provide the community with the best healthcare support possible. We want to help the City of San Antonio because it’s our city and our home” said Dr. Emma Santa Maria, Assistant Professor and Director of Professional Development with the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine.
“Getting the seasonal flu shot protects both you and your loved ones’ well-being. I am looking forward to hosting a third drive-thru flu vaccine clinic during National Influenza Vaccination Week to help as many people get vaccinated as possible,” said Councilwoman Ana Sandoval. “I’m grateful to Metro Health and the UIW Cardinals for making this event possible.”
The flu season extends through winter and people who haven’t been vaccinated yet are highly encouraged to do so. “We know both flu and COVID-19 will be co-circulating in our community this winter, so we must work together to maximize the prevention of co-infections. In this context, getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever this season.” said Dr. Anita K Kurian, Assistant Director of Metro Health.
Participants must register prior to attending the event. To receive a no cost vaccine, please register here. For individuals who are not able to register online, please call: 210-207-7061. Face masks are required. For more information about immunizations and to see upcoming events please visit the Metro Health website.
