Department of Government and Public Affairs
The Government & Public Affairs Department coordinates the City’s relationships with the federal government. The department monitors federal activity, develops policy programs approved by City Council, and advocates for the City’s interests in Washington, D.C.
The United States Congress is the legislative body of the United States. Comprised by the House of Representatives and the Senate, the Congress meets in two year legislative sessions which begin and end each third day of January of odd numbered years. The current 116th Congress began on January 3, 2019 and will end on January 3, 2021.
