Intergovernmental Relations assists in the development of agreements with other political subdivisions to provide for increased efficiency and services to the citizens of San Antonio.
These Interlocal agreements include:
The San Antonio Police Department receives criminal laboratory services through Bexar County.
The San Antonio Fire Department provides EMS services to residents of Balcones Heights, Castle Hills, Helotes, Windcrest.
The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District provides food and environmental health inspection services in the unincorporated areas of Bexar County.
Services include license permits for restaurants, swimming pool inspections, illegal dumping investigations, lead surveys and mobile living park inspections.
Municipalities, military installations, and volunteer fire departments agree to coordinate and provide emergency assistance during catastrophic events.
Participating entities include Alamo Heights, Balcones Heights, Bracken, Camelot, Castle Hills, China Grove, Ft. Sam Houston, Gardendale, Geronimo Village, Grey Forest, Harmony, Helotes, Hollywood Park, Jarret, Kirby, Leon Springs, Leon Valley, Like Oak, Lone Oak, Lytle, Northwest Primrose, Rossville, Sandy Oaks, Schertz, Selma, Somerset, South Bexar, Southwest St. Hedwig, Terrell Hills, Universal City, and Windcrest.
The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District provides health services through its network of neighborhood clinics for residents of unincorporated Bexar County.
Residents of the unincorporated area and suburban cities in Bexar County receive library services from the San Antonio Public Library and its network of branch libraries.
The City and Bexar County each share 50% of the funding received from the U.S. Department of Justice for projects aimed at reducing crime and improving public safety.
The City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department coordinates reservations for both City and County parks.
As part of an agreement with the North East Independent School District, the Reagan High School Library operates as a public library after school hours and on weekends.
The City and County have consolidated property tax collections.
The Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector is responsible for computing and publishing the effective tax rate, establishing the tax roll, preparing and mailing all tax statements and receiving payment of taxes for the City of San Antonio.
The City and County have consolidated booking, magistration, and pre-trial services at the City’s Detention Center located in the Frank D. Wing Municipal Courts Building.
The City has dedicated staff to expedite the development-related needs of public school districts.
The City and surrounding counties have created a single point of intake for plat approvals in the City’s extra-territorial jurisdiction, eliminating duplication and providing better coordination of plat review.
