San Antonio is a strategic regional center for North American trade. A rich confluence of international economic and cultural connections affords unique opportunities. The region’s special geographic position provides a strong logistical platform for exports, due to great connections to the east and west coasts, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America. Interstate highways connect San Antonio to all the major Texas population centers, the principal border crossing points into Mexico, and the seaports at Corpus Christi and Houston.
Local government and business leaders have recognized the San Antonio area’s potential for increased exports in order to diversify the economy. To realize this potential, San Antonio is teaming with the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Export Exchange program to develop an export strategy. Along with seven other communities from across the US, San Antonio is developing goals and strategies to increase exports and the number of companies who export.
The San Antonio plan is currently under development and will be released to the community in June 2013.
