SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 18, 2018) — Mayor Ron Nirenberg issued the following statement in response to City Council’s approval of a land sale and development agreement to assist the University of Texas at San Antonio’s downtown expansion:

“UTSA’s expansion will accelerate San Antonio’s ongoing central city resurgence and provide a transformative boost that enhances economic opportunity for generations to come.

The National Security Collaboration Center and the School of Data Science will dramatically enhance the federal cyber relationship and solidify San Antonio as Cyber City USA.

These initiatives will have a profound effect on our growing technology sector in addition to UTSA’s drive to become a nationally recognized research university.

San Antonio is second only to the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area when it comes to federal cyber defense assets. Already, San Antonio’s academic institutions are a big part of the cyber technology landscape.

Dr. Taylor Eighmy’s vision and partnership with the City of San Antonio are very welcome and a huge asset to San Antonio and our efforts to create the vibrant downtown we want for the future.”
