SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 19, 2018) — The National League of Cities (NLC) has appointed Mayor Ron Nirenberg to its newly created task force to address the affordable housing crisis.
The Task Force on Housing includes 18 leaders from cities of various sizes, regions and demographics and will develop a set of best practices for addressing housing issues at the local level as well as policy recommendations for state and federal governments.
“San Antonio is proactively addressing the challenge of housing affordability to avoid the crisis affecting so many U.S. cities,” said Mayor Nirenberg.
The Mayor’s Housing Policy Task Force recommendations were adopted by the City Council and supported by more than $17-million new dollars for affordable housing production and preservation.
“I am proud to contribute lessons from San Antonio because our community-drive, data-informed process is a model that cities can replicate nationwide. Housing policy is a cornerstone of economic development and everyone deserves a place to call home,” the Mayor added.
