SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 21, 2019) — Mayor Ron Nirenberg is encouraging all businesses in the downtown area to create dazzling store front displays and exterior holiday lighting on their buildings during the 9th Annual Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest, which begins Nov. 29 and runs through Dec.19, 2019.

Last year, 80 businesses participated, and more are expected to join in on the fun this year. The entry deadline for the contest is Nov. 29, 2019. For more information and to join, visit www.LightUpDowntownSA.com.

“I encourage all San Antonio residents to come downtown to enjoy the beautiful holiday decorations and atmosphere,” said Mayor Nirenberg. “Thousands of residents and guests come downtown to look at the lights that grace the River Walk every year. The Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest brings this magic up to the street level and encourages festive lighting displays throughout downtown.”

Participants, including hotels, stores, restaurants, and organizations will showcase the exteriors of their buildings with creative holiday lighting displays and compete in a variety of categories including Best Small, Medium and Large Business Displays, Best Use of Space as well as People’s Choice. The contest provides a family-friendly environment and encourages locals and tourists to visit downtown during the holidays. Individuals can vote for their favorite lighting displays online at www.LightUpDowntownSA.com. Winners will be recognized by Mayor Nirenberg.

The displays will be lit through early January. The Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office, the City of San Antonio’s Center City Development and Operations Department, CPS Energy and media partner WOAI’s The Living Show.
