SAN ANTONIO (November 12, 2020) — Today, City Council voted to approve the City’s 87th State Legislative Program, a product of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee, which Councilman Pelaez chairs. In response to this vote, Councilman Pelaez issued the following statement:
“I am proud of our 87th State Legislative Program, which provides our City’s Department of Government and Public Affairs guidance and direction for advocacy initiatives toward the Texas Legislature, the Governor’s Office, and State Agencies on behalf of the City and its residents.
Informed by an array of essential community partners and supported unanimously by the Mayor and Council, this program covers the gambit of critical local issues and props up our community’s advocacy priorities in the state policy arena.
Key priorities include advocacy efforts for police accountability and transparency, workforce and economic development, public health and safety, domestic violence prevention, affordable housing, local control, and reasonable redistricting that ensures fair representation for all San Antonians.
Its passage today will ensure we are leveraging San Antonio’s unique story and needs toward state-level advocacy, which will enable us to best support the policies that benefit our community and oppose those that are to our detriment.
We all owe our thanks to the exceptional team at our Department of Government and Public Affairs for their tireless work in shaping this program and for the work to come in manifesting its vision.”
