Capital Park Little League Not Moving to McAllister Park

Concern from our community has been raised regarding the building of baseball fields and related amenities for Capitol Park Little League to relocate to McAllister Park. Based on community input, and in coordination with District 10 Councilman Mike Gallagher, City staff is recommending that Capitol Park Little League not be relocated to McAllister Park.

On Monday, October 3rd, City staff provided recommendations of $116 million in park and recreation projects for the City’s proposed 2017 Bond Program to the Parks & Recreation Community Bond Committee. One of the projects included new baseball fields at McAllister Park for Capitol Park Little League. The City is now in the process of exploring alternative sites other than at McAllister Park. Staff will present options to the Parks & Recreation Community Bond Committee at their next meeting on Monday, October 17th.

“The 2017 Bond community process is a vital part of exploring future improvements for our City and is a process that works,” stated City Councilman Mike Gallagher, District 10. “The amount of feedback received and the coordinated action of City staff proves that our community is engaged and that the City is listening.”

McAllister Park, at almost 1,000 acres, is an oasis of green in north San Antonio that offers a balance of nature and traditional urban park amenities. From organized sports and running groups to a family hiking on wilderness trails to the dog park, McAllister Park will continue to be a refuge and preserve.

Capitol Park Little League has been affiliated with Little League International for 56 years. Approximately 500 youth between the ages of 4 and 17 participate annually in year-round league activities including baseball and softball. The League’s current location of 40 years in the coming seasons will no longer be available to them.
