SAN ANTONIO (June 20, 2018) — Today, the City Council’s Governance Committee moved forward on a council consideration request (CCR) from Councilwoman Sandoval calling for the City to adopt principles and best practices of public participation.
Councilwoman Sandoval released the following statement:
“Engaged citizens are fundamental to the health of our City government. City initiatives and policies are strengthened by the insight and input of our residents. Thus, our public participation efforts must allow for meaningful input by those residents.
“Meaningful public participation builds trust between the community and City and adds another measure of accountability.”
As part of the effort to improve public participation, city staff will consider improvements to Citizens To Be Heard, implement best practices for public engagement, and find ways to connect engaged residents to their areas of interest.
