The Administrative Services Section is under the direction of a Deputy Fire Chief, and includes:
The Arson Bureau is responsible for investigating the cause of fires and explosions within the city limits of San Antonio. They also investigate fire-related deaths, life threatening burn injuries, suspected explosive devices, and bomb threats.
In January of 2012 the SAFD Communication Division moved it’s Dispatch center or Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to Brooks City Base on the South East side of San Antonio. The new state-of-the-art facility has a foot print of approximately forty thousand square feet.
The Community Safety and Education Division strives to provide effective fire safety education with the most current and up-to-date information about numerous fire safety conditions.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responds by assessing, treating, stabilizing, and transporting patients until definitive medical care is available at an appropriate facility.
The Fire Prevention Division, under direction of the Fire Marshal, Deputy Chief Christopher Monestier, provides a fire-safe environment for the citizens of San Antonio.
The Firefighting Division provides fire protection, rescue services, and medical first responder service to over 1.3 million citizens in a service coverage area of over 460 square miles. With the growth of San Antonio, the division now handles over 118,000 emergency incidents a year.
The Health and Wellness provides medical physicals designed to provide early detection of serious medical conditions and encourage better health. The program has been modeled after the International Association of Fire Fighters/International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFF/IAFC) Wellness-Fitness Initiative and in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards 1582.
The members of the Support Services Divisions are committed to providing excellent customer service for both our internal and external customers. The different services offered vary, but all components are essential and beneficial to every employee who works to carry out the mission of the Department.
The Services & Logistics Division supports Fire Department operations through the acquisition and maintenance of Fire and EMS vehicles, equipment and facilities, as well as the procurement and distribution of supplies and materials necessary for day-to-day functions.
The Public Information Office (PIO) is responsible for managing the ebb and flow of information both to the general public and to the SAFD Family.
Through the Fire Training Academy (FTA) all official training is managed. The San Antonio Fire Department maintains its own Cadet Training Program on campus as well as numerous Incumbent Training programs designed to continue our firefighter’s education and enhance our firefighter’s expertise throughout their careers.
