SAN ANTONIO (May 25, 2018) – Industry reports have confirmed San Antonio International Airport (SAT) once again recorded unprecedented growth in passenger statistics in the month of April. The NCAA Final Four and the Easter holiday weekend contributed to the boost in this year’s second quarter. A record 836,492 passengers flew through the airport during April. That’s an increase of 13.5% or nearly 100,000 more passengers than the same month last year. The statistics represent the highest level of single month growth in more than a decade, a record previously surpassed in March. April’s growth bolstered calendar year-to-date totals of 10.7% exceeding three million passengers for the first time ever.

“This is the twenty-second consecutive month of record passenger growth, and obviously we view this as a positive trend. It provides momentum to continue our progress and record-breaking passenger growth well into the future,” said Russ Handy, Aviation Director for the City of San Antonio.

Domestically, traffic climbed 13% compared to the same time last year. This boost is attributed to both the Final Four and new routes on Frontier and American Airlines. International traffic surged by 38.3%.

More than 21,000,000 pounds of cargo passed through SAT in the month of April for a 10% increase from year to year.
