Short-term Public Parking & Rental Car Facility

Background & Purpose
  • In 2011, the San Antonio International Airport Master Plan included a recommendation that the Airport build a CONRAC within the next five years.
  • Location within walking distance of the terminals for all rental car brands which currently operate in the Airport and provide space for additional operators or new entrants eliminating the need for shuttles.
Project Scope
  • Construction of a facility that will house up to 14 rental car brands and short‐term public parking within walking distance of both terminals on the site of the hourly parking garage and adjoining surface parking lot.
  • Facility is over 1.8 million square feet.
  • The first two levels of the facility will house public parking (maintaining the current public parking capacity in existing hourly parking garage). Three levels will be for ready/return parking spaces and Quick Turnaround (QTA) areas for light maintenance, fueling and washing of vehicles. There is a level will be for vehicle storage and a cantilever for customer service center.
  • As part of the project, a sky bridge will connect the facility to Terminal B and serve as the entry and exit point for rental car customers to the terminals.
Project Cost
  • $171.8 Million (funded by Customer Facility Charge)
Project Schedule
  • Public parking portion will open in a phased manner, beginning in the Summer of 2017.
  • Rental Car Customer Center scheduled to open December 2017.
