SAN ANTONIO (July 19, 2019) – The month of June concluded the 3rd full year – 36 consecutive months – of record breaking passenger growth for San Antonio International Airport.  This achievement is unprecedented, and continues to anchor SAT as a consistent contributor to San Antonio’s economic growth and prosperity.

“I could not be more proud of the entire San Antonio Airport System Team” said Russ Handy, Aviation Director for the City of San Antonio.  “This milestone is a collective achievement of all of the efforts from our SAAS team, partners and stakeholders.  The contributions made by every member of our team continue to make SAT an airport of choice for business travelers, leisure travelers and airlines alike.”

A total of 943,469 passengers moved through SAT in the month of June for an increase of 6% compared to June 2018.  The month of June’s passenger numbers represent an overall increase of 18% since June of 2016 after three years of continuous, consecutive record-breaking growth. Sticking with record breaking and record setting themes – June’s passenger statistics are the highest for any month of June and marks the first time SAT has exceeded 900,000 passengers in the month of June.  SAT has exceeded 5 million passengers for the year-to-date, which is the earliest this mark has ever been reached, with the conclusion of the busy summer travel season as well as holiday and end of year travel surges still yet to come.

Domestic traffic rose 5.5% with a total of 896,231 passengers passing through SAT in June. This domestic travel success accompanies a 4.9% increase in capacity, with many domestic carriers adding seats to various markets during the month.  For example, Sun Country Airlines continued its expansion at SAT in June with their start of nonstop service to Portland, Oregon.    This continues to serve as a positive indicator for continued increases in passenger demand.

International traffic increased an astounding 24% with 47,238 passengers.  This tremendous accomplishment is underscored as international capacity growth was outpaced by seats filled, despite an 18% increase in scheduled capacity.  Interjet increased its service to Guadalajara from weekly to daily while Volaris made adjustments to their seasonal service to Mexico City, contributing to June’s record numbers.

Air cargo also experienced a slight increase with a total of 22,926,222 pounds in June.
